The MEANS to an End Lifestyle™ and Resistance
Each of the five components of The MEANS to an End Lifestyle™ can give you longevity and are the foundation for anti-aging:
Mindset | Exercise | Avoidance | Nutrition | Sleep
While each of these is unique unto itself, they won’t work without the master switch — your mind.
You intuitively know the basics of The MEANS to an End Lifestyle™. You know the steps you need to take to begin the anti-aging journey. If it’s not happening for you, there is only one reason: you’re confronting an unseen enemy whose sole purpose is to prevent you from achieving it.
One of my favourite books of all time, The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, tells us why so many of us struggle with this journey.
Resistance
“Many of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands Resistance.”
Resistance is the force that conspires against anyone with a noble cause. Writing a book, starting a business, creating a work of art, getting healthy — Resistance is the enemy.
“Have you ever brought home a treadmill and let it gather dust in the attic? Ever quit a diet, a course of yoga, a meditation practice? —Then you know what Resistance is.”
Set out to achieve any of these and Resistance is there to stop you.
Go out for dinner and fill up on bread and multiple glasses of water before your meal comes. You know better than that, but Resistance made you do it.
Hit the snooze button and miss your morning workout. Resistance wins again.
“Procrastination is the most common manifestations of Resistance because it’s the easiest to rationalize. We don’t tell ourselves, “I’m never going to write my symphony.” Instead we say, “I am going to write my symphony; I’m just going to start it tomorrow.”
If any of this sounds familiar to you — it’s smacked me between the eyes more times than I care to count — the next post will reveal how Pressfield combats Resistance.
