Body Systems: Understanding the Basics
We’ve all heard of someone whose cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. That’s usually not a good thing. What are lymph nodes and what purpose do they serve?
Glands. Thyroid, pituitary, adrenals. You’ve heard of them — but what role do they play in your body and in your health?
Having a basic understanding of the inner workings of your body gives you a tremendous advantage when pursuing lifelong health. You don’t need to be a walking encyclopedia on biological minutia, but knowing the basics about the various parts of your body is helpful to the anti-ager.
It all starts with an invisible miracle — the human cell. We all started from a single one.
A group of cells make tissue, the next level of the human body and the first visible to the naked eye.
Different tissues working in conjunction with each other in the same place in the body make up your organs.
Different organs throughout the body can work together to create body systems, for example, the circulatory or reproductive systems.
These various body systems work in harmony with each other [or not, in some cases] to give you your body.
Over the next month or two we will do an overview of the different systems throughout your body — an overview of what the different body systems do, their main components, and what you can do to optimise the performance of each.
